When Einstein was being hired to Princeton, they asked him how much he should be paid and he said $3,000. His wife wrangled it up to $16,000
He wasn't a citizen of any country for approximately 5 years! From 1896 (when he renounced his German citizenship at only 15 years old) until 1901 (when he became a Swiss citizen)
The Israeli Government asked him to be their second president in 1952. He declined the offer but was uncomfortable about the decision because he didn't want to cause offense.

Contrary to popular belief, he didn't fail high school completely. He only made it part way through before failing at 15. He tried to skip the remainder by taking a college entrance exam, which he also failed, and was forced to finish high school anyway.
